Do you know what really, really makes me angry?

People, like this shmuck, who try to make of profit off of 9/11.  GRRRRR.

*UPDATE - The starting price has dropped from $10,000 to $2,500.  And, the very charming seller of this item has told the firefighters who question the authenticity of the helmet (and the "burn" marks) to "mind their own business".

Also, I might add that it's a federal offense to remove items from Ground Zero, which is probably why the auction reads that it was found "near" Ground Zero.

Oh, and one more update - It's been REMOVED!  Victory!!

Ok, and one more update, here's an article about it, and a quote:

The seller wrote that he is a firefighter who volunteered at Ground Zero after the attacks and that he found the
helmet near the site. However, the seller's former rescue squad in Virginia suspects the helmet belongs to
them.

"We're 99 percent sure it's ours," said Purcellville Volunteer Rescue Squad vice president Tommy Harrison. "We
had no idea about this sale, and we'd actually like our helmet back."

I make a big stink about it, only because the loser claims that he is still planning on selling the helmet, just not
on Ebay.  (Since his account has been banned)

T, you should write and tell him (and eBay) how you feel. How did you come across it?

S, the firehouse was talking about it. It's already been reported to Ebay, so hopefully they'll pull it.

It's totally a fraud, no one around here even wears a helmet like that. Ugh!

There was a guy who tried to sell on ebay an American flag that flew at the Pentagon on 9/11. I kinda had the same reaction as you when I heard about it. Then I read that the guy has terminal cancer, was flat broke, and had a family--with nothing to live on after he died. So not sure how we should react to that kind of thing....

Yeah, I followed that story too. That guy says he got the flag from a contractor who was working at the Pentagon on 9/11, and he got a signed statement from him that stated that the flag was really there - which means that his intention was to make a profit right from the start, which is disgusting.

And the construction company that employs that contractor cannot, or will not, certify that the flag was at the Pentagon at all.

i worked for a guy who is right now trying to make money from the tragedy. the NYPost did an article on him, slamming him. he bought up all the video shot by lay persons that day that he could find. then he started selling it out as stock footage. now that his company is belly-up (karma really does work ya know), he's trying to sell the whole 9/11 footage library to save his dumb ass. i can't name his name, but i will say he was a total psycho. and the article, when i read it, made me realize what a heartless vampire he really is. i believe the article was "sorrow for sale". made me love the Post, and i'm a Daily News girl.
